It would be unfair to count the miracle babies of this world without adding my name to the list. After ten years of waiting, my parents finally had me—and even then, my mother didn’t know she was pregnant until she was far along. I arrived without announcement, but I arrived with presence. And so they named me Queen Murjanatu. My names were never accidental. Murjanatu means “a piece of gold from paradise,” while Queen is more than a title—it’s a destiny. Names carry power. I have grown into mine, both consciously and unconsciously, and they have shaped the way I see myself in the world.
Born to a Ghanaian father and a Nigerian mother , I grew up as a bi-African child, weaving my identity between Ghana, Nigeria, and other African countries we called home along the way. This early exposure to Africa’s many colors, textures, languages, and spirits awakened something deep in me. I often call myself a born-again African, not because I was ever lost, but because I have made an intentional return to the roots I proudly carry.
Through rediscovering my Africanness, my Blackness, and my heritage, I have found infinite inspiration. Even as a young girl, I felt it—this sense that everything attached to my existence had meaning. Power. Purpose.

I have always loved the giraffe. I didn’t know why — I just knew it was my spirit animal.
Back in school, I was always the tallest in class, and people called me “the giraffe.” But over time, I realized the connection went far beyond height. The giraffe is not just tall — it’s deeply aware. It sees from a different height, a different perspective. It walks with grace among predators and still survives. It doesn’t boast, but no one dares to challenge it.
The giraffe is soft yet powerful. Humble but majestic. Rooted in Africa. Everything about it speaks to me — its resilience, beauty, and quiet strength.
But the story deepened in 2023.
One day, I was talking with my father and he asked me a simple question:
“Queen, why do you love the giraffe so much?”
I laughed and said, “I don’t know. I just do.”
Then he told me something I’d never known — when I was a baby, I had a giraffe toy I carried everywhere. He even showed me a photo.
That moment gave me chills. This connection I thought I discovered as an adult had been with me since birth. The giraffe was always part of my story — I just hadn’t remembered.
This is one of the deeper inspirations behind the creative spirit of Quemsa Afrique. Our jewelry is made for people who want to stand tall, stand out, and stand proud.

Bold jewelry has always called to me. As a child, I would sneak into my grandmother’s room to try on her statement pieces — she would laugh and say I was too young for such boldness. But I didn’t care. I felt powerful.
My mother was my fashion icon. She understood how to wear statement pieces with pride and elegance, always rooted in her culture. I loved everything she wore. She inspired my sense of beauty and identity.
I come from a deeply creative family — sculptors, painters, wood carvers, blacksmiths, weavers — even if they pursued other professional careers. Art ran through us. And I’m proud to be the first of my mother’s children to share that art and beauty with the world.

Quemsa Afrique lived within me long before it had a name. But it was during one of the most uncertain moments in recent history — the COVID-19 lockdown — that it finally came to life.
At the time, I was a 20-year-old sophomore at university. From my small campus room, armed with passion and vision, I began what would become more than just a brand. I still remember the first shoot — my dear friend, Aisha Kay, helped me film our products. We posted them online with hope, not knowing just how far this dream would travel.
Since then, we have grown — not only in the pieces we create, but in the community we are nurturing: a global circle of people who understand and appreciate the power of statement pieces, whether bold, minimal, or deeply personal.
